COVID-19 Risks During Pregnancy

  • Submitted by: Daniel Johnson, Edinburgh Southern, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 09 June 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00291

That the Parliament recognises and shares the concerns expressed by the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding the COVID-19 risks to pregnant women; understands that, according to WHO, those who contract the virus during pregnancy are more likely to need respiratory intervention and are at greater risk of premature and still birth; understands, however, that the JCVI, has not prioritised this group for vaccination; believes that this could leave mothers, including in the Edinburgh Southern constituency, in their early 20s waiting weeks to be vaccinated; believes that for those expecting, weeks matter, and therefore calls on the Scottish Government to recognise what it sees as this shortcoming and encourage this group to be protected.
