Investment for Lanarkshire Ice Rink, Hamilton

  • Submitted by: Monica Lennon, Central Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 24 March 2021
  • Motion reference: S5M-24456

That the Parliament congratulates Lanarkshire Ice Rink PLC/Lanarkshire Ice Rink Club in Hamilton on being awarded £100,000 from sportscotland; notes that it is one of 12 rinks from across the country that are to share a £1.75 million fund to support independently-run ice rinks and help mitigate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic; understands that, due to the restrictions, the Lanarkshire rink has been able to open for two weeks only since March 2020 and that this has had a detrimental impact on the facility; believes that the investment will be used by the rink to allow it to reopen in September 2021, provide security of employment for staff and establish a safe and healthy environment for skating and curling, and sends its best wishes to its staff and members.
