Aggreko Takeover

  • Submitted by: John Mason, Glasgow Shettleston, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 09 March 2021
  • Motion reference: S5M-24335

That the Parliament notes with concern what it sees as the increasingly long list of major Scottish-listed companies to lose their independence; understands that Aggreko has been bought out by two private equity firms, one of which operates in both the UK and the USA; understands that Aggreko follows in the footsteps of other Scottish-listed companies, such as Scottish Power, Kwikfit, Scottish & Newcastle, Stakis and General Accident; expresses concern about the future location of the strategic headquarters of such firms, as it considers that this can impact both the direction that the company moves in and its employment base, and believes that, in order to rebuild the economy after the COVID-19 pandemic and create greater economic certainty, decisions affecting Scottish businesses and their workforce are best made in Scotland.
