  • Submitted by: David Stewart, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 01 February 2021
  • Motion reference: S5M-24015

That the Parliament congratulates the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) on the 10th anniversary of its creation on 1 February 2021, and welcomes its new Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Todd Walker, into post; wishes him a warm welcome to the Highlands and every success in his new role; considers that the establishment of UHI has greatly expanded the further and higher education opportunities across the region, and that it has been ahead of the curve, having been at the forefront of remote online learning over the last decade; recognises the contribution of UHI research expertise focussed on the social, cultural and economic needs of the communities that it serves, as well as the significant economic boost and number of jobs that the institution brings to the region, and hopes for another strong decade of growth and development.
