That the Parliament notes that 1 to 7 August each year is World Breastfeeding Week; notes that it was first held in 1992 to generate public awareness and support for breastfeeding; understands that the timing honours the August 1990 signing of the Innocenti Declaration by government policymakers, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and other organisations; believes that this document helped pave the way for protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding worldwide; recognises that the theme for 2020 is Support Breastfeeding for a Healthier Planet; acknowledges that it is focusing on the impact of infant feeding on the environment and climate change and highlights that support for breastfeeding is good for the health of the world and its people; commends the work being carried out by NHS Lanarkshire through the Infant Feeding Team to promote and support breastfeeding using the week to share mother's and children’s views on the benefits; notes that the NHS board has  established an online community, which allows new mothers access to online resources and to take part in virtual conversations to learn more about the benefits of breastfeeding, and supports the WHO and UNICEF in calling on governments to protect and promote women’s access to skilled breastfeeding counselling to give the essential support to get started and to sustain breastfeeding.
