  • Date lodged: Thursday, 02 May 2019
  • Motion reference: S5M-17166

That the Parliament congratulates Jackie and Calum Innes of Downie’s Cottage at Braemar for achieving a five-star review from VisitScotland after restoring the 1850s cottage from dilapidated ruins; commends the hard work and dedication to renovate the building into a luxury self-catering cottage that enjoys stunning views over Braemar, a well-established tourism village; acknowledges that the cottage has now achieved the highest possible grading from the national tourism authority's Qualification Assurance scheme; recognises the efforts to maintain traditional features of the cottage, including exposed beams, lime-washed floors and a “hingin lum”, and thanks Jackie and Calum for the positive impact that it considers this renovation will have on attracting tourists who wish to explore the Cairngorms and enjoy a traditional stay in Aberdeenshire.
