  • Submitted by: Fulton MacGregor, Coatbridge and Chryston, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 04 January 2019
  • Motion reference: S5M-15237

That the Parliament notes with sadness the passing of Dean Ford, lead singer of the Scottish pop group, Marmalade, at the age of 72; notes that Coatbridge-born Dean co-founded the group in 1961, which went on to release 11 singles, the best known of which, a cover of The Beatles' Ob-la-di Ob-la-da, reached number one in 1968, allowing Marmalade to become the first Scottish band to have a UK number one hit; respectfully acknowledges this achievement, welcomes the musical legacy that Dean leaves, and sends its condolences to his family.
