  • Submitted by: Stewart Stevenson, Banffshire and Buchan Coast, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 26 September 2018
  • Motion reference: S5M-14107

That the Parliament welcomes the Seafit programme, which will be launched in Peterhead on 2 October 2018; understands that the programme will be a health and wellbeing development partnership programme for active and retired fishermen and their families; notes that the programme will be delivered by the Fishermen’s Mission and the Seafarers Hospital Society and supported by Seafarers UK; further notes that the service will include dental health checks and treatment, mental health and wellbeing support and other services; acknowledges that the services will be free of charge with no appointment necessary and will begin with a three-day health check event in the sea cadets building in Seagate, Peterhead; recognises the extreme dangers and challenges that fishermen and their families face on a regular basis and the significant impact that this can have on health and wellbeing; believes that this new programme will improve the health and wellbeing of fishermen and their families, giving them better support to deal with the unique challenges fishing communities face; commends all those involved in the development of this worthy project, and looks forward to the positive effect that it considers this programme will have on both the fishing and wider community in the north east and beyond.
