That the Parliament warmly congratulates the 8,000 pipers and drummers who took part in the 2018 World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow on the calibre of their performances over the two-day event; notes that 214 bands from 13 countries, including New Zealand, Oman, the United States, Canada and Zimbabwe, participated in the competition; welcomes that in Scotland’s Year of Young People, around 40% of competitors were under the age of 25; understands that the city has hosted the event every year since 1986 and that more than 30,000 people attended the latest event at Glasgow Green; notes that the competition was preceded by Piping Live!, which is Glasgow’s week-long international piping festival; recognises the contribution of these events to what it sees as the city's vibrant music economy and tourism industry, and commends the Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band, which is from Northern Ireland, on being named the World Pipe Band Champion.
