That the Parliament commends the political engagement demonstrated by 16- and 17-years-old in Scotland since 2014, when they were first given the right to vote; applauds the work of the Scottish Youth Parliament; pays tribute to the young people in Edinburgh and across the country, some of whom are already members of political parties, who regularly debate politics; understands that evidence from the Electoral Reform Society suggests that, where 16- to 18-year-olds are given the opportunity to vote, they have a higher turnout than the 18-25 demographic, and notes the calls to lower the age of candidacy in Scotland to 16, in line with the voting age.
