Douglas Academy to Represent UK at European Youth Parliament

That the Parliament commends Douglas Academy in Milngavie on its participation in the European Youth Parliament (EYP); congratulates pupils for representing the West of Scotland at the EYP’s National Forum in Liverpool and for being selected to represent the UK at the 87th International Forum of the EYP in Lithuania in summer 2018, which has the theme, Learning from the Past, Shaping the Future; welcomes that the group of Jonathan Douglas, Hannah Duthie, Esther Fletcher, Caroline Love, Isla Martin, Matthew McIlree, Calum Silcock and Arun Smith want to use the experience to motivate their peers to engage in politics and develop their own skills; notes that the school also represented the UK in 2002 and 2008; understands that the EYP brings together young people from across 40 European countries and organises nearly 600 events a year, over 1,500 days, with more than 35,000 participants, and further understands that the EYP’s mission is to inspire and empower young Europeans to become more open-minded and active citizens.
