Dumfries and Galloway's Beat the Street Initiative

  • Submitted by: Emma Harper, South Scotland, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 05 September 2017
  • Motion reference: S5M-07500

That the Parliament congratulates Dumfries and Galloway Council, and the local authority's partners, on the launch of the Beat the Street initiative on 30 August 2017, which is a free interactive task in which schoolchildren are issued with a fob that can be tapped on 47 boxes located throughout the area to allow them to take part in daily exercise in a fun, friendly way; notes that the distances that the pupils walk between the boxes are recorded and prizes are given to those who manage to clock up the most miles, and hopes that this will help contribute towards them enjoying an overall healthy lifestyle.
