Flooding in Bangladesh

  • Submitted by: Ivan McKee, Glasgow Provan, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 30 August 2017
  • Motion reference: S5M-07339

That the Parliament acknowledges with dismay the disastrous flooding taking place in Bangladesh; understands that approximately five million people have been affected, that there are already 250 dead and that experts predict that the country is headed for a major flood similar to the one that it experienced in 1988; regrets that, due to climate change, more such natural disasters can be expected in future; hopes that community organisations and local and national governments will work together to help and support those affected, in the short and longer terms; commends the Bangladesh Association Glasgow on the formation of a steering committee for Bangladesh Flood Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation with immediate effect, and encourages all who can to donate to this worthy cause.
