That the Parliament welcomes the recent publication of a report, which was issued under the auspices of the Scottish Government’s Growing Up in Scotland study programme and focuses on the importance of father-child relationships; notes that the research found that better father-child relationships were associated with greater overall child socio-emotional wellbeing, as measured by lower levels of behavioural and emotional difficulties, and greater life satisfaction, and that children who perceive more emotional support from a father experience greater wellbeing outside the home, are more likely both to enjoy school and have good relationships with teachers and peers, and commends the work of organisations that promote and support the role of fathers in families, resident or otherwise, including Parent Network Scotland, Families need Fathers, Family Mediation Service West, Glasgow Dads’ Club and many others.
