Scottish Badger Week

  • Submitted by: Colin Smyth, South Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 16 May 2017
  • Motion reference: S5M-05632

That the Parliament welcomes the first Scottish Badger Week, which is run in partnership between Scottish Badgers and the Scottish Wildlife Trust between 20 and 28 May 2017; applauds the fact that the week aims to help people get involved in protecting this iconic and much-loved species by reporting setts, signing-up to volunteer to help badgers or by coming along to one of the special events taking place at Falls of Clyde Visitor Centre and Wildlife Reserve near Lanark, and considers that, as Scotland’s second largest native land mammal after deer, badgers are an intrinsic part of the country's biodiversity and landscape, however, they remain under threat from persecution, habitat loss and road deaths.
