That the Parliament welcomes reports that plans have been revealed for a world-class visitor centre for the Caledonian Canal at Fort Augustus; understands that work on this could start before the end of 2017 and that the project is being developed by Scottish Canals, which operates the historic waterway; notes that the attraction would be housed near the canal in a former convenience store in the centre of the village and that Scottish Canals has offered a contract worth up to £650,000 to refurbish this; understands that it is hoped that it will deliver an all year-round visitor service, with a visitor centre and visitor information interpretation, a café selling homemade and locally-sourced produce and a shop that will sell goods produced in the area, and believes that the facility could unlock the wealth of community heritage and internationally-renowned features of the canal, the Great Glen and Loch Ness.
