That the Parliament congratulates researchers from Heriot-Watt University School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society (EGIS) on winning the UK Career Development Award 2017 for Best Practice in the Use of Technology in Career Development; understands that the award was won for the development of "Virtual Reality – Careers in Construction", encompassing three games that promote career opportunities in the construction sector by offering practical understanding as to what is involved in different construction disciplines, including project management, energy efficiency of buildings and town planning; notes that the researchers teamed up with Skills Development Scotland (SDS), the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and Animmersion Ltd to develop the games as part of SDS’s My World of Work Live! programme; recognises that pupils from Leith Academy helped to launch the games at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh, and welcomes the launch of the games at a time when the CITB has forecast that the construction industry will require 12,000 new construction workers in Scotland over the next five years to meet demand.
