IVF Equality of Opportunity

  • Submitted by: Elaine Smith, Central Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 09 November 2016
  • Motion reference: S5M-02425

That the Parliament notes the success of National Infertility Awareness Week; recognises that the National Infertility Group has recommended that the maximum number of IVF treatments for couples be increased from two to three in 2017; notes that a number of couples reached the maximum of two treatments previously and failed to conceive due to extenuating circumstances; believes that they should be given an opportunity to appeal, and calls for those couples to be retrospectively allowed an additional treatment so that parity of opportunity is assured when the formal date of introducing the expansion is confirmed.
