Petra McMillan, Mount Kilimanjaro Conqueror

  • Submitted by: Graeme Dey, Angus South, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 12 October 2016
  • Motion reference: S5M-01954

That the Parliament congratulates Petra McMillan, from Carnoustie, on raising over £5,000 for Marie Curie by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest free-standing mountain in the world; notes that Mount Kilimanjaro, a dormant volcano, stands at 19,341 feet; understands that the climb was executed over an exhausting six-day period; recognises that, even while suffering the effects of altitude sickness, Petra finished the climb along with the rest of the Marie Curie group, which collectively raised over £81,000 for the charity; further notes that Petra is the very first UK Marie Curie patron to the climb the majestic mountain, and commends her perseverance in finishing the gruelling challenge.
