  • Submitted by: John Lamont, Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.

  • Motion reference: S5M-01305

That the Parliament congratulates Scotland’s top 20 dairy farms, which have recently been announced as contestants in the 2016 AgriScot Scottish Dairy Farm of the Year Award; understands that the finalists were selected after an assessment of performance data from nearly 1,000 farms; congratulates in particular the two farms from the Scottish Borders, R & J McDonald of Kelloe Mains near Duns and KSH Farmers of Kennetsideheads near Kelso; notes that while the south west of Scotland has traditionally dominated the list, two businesses in the Borders have been able to compete with the best in Scotland; believes that, during a challenging time for the dairy sector, these businesses have been able to achieve very high yields as well as high quality milk produced by well cared for cows; notes that the final four contestants are due to be announced in September, with the overall winner revealed at an awards ceremony on 16 November, and wishes the contestants the best of luck as the farms are being judged.
