LGBTI Equality and Scottish Football

  • Submitted by: Mary Fee, West Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 26 August 2016
  • Motion reference: S5M-01176

That the Parliament congratulates the Equality Network on its campaign to make Scottish football more inclusive; acknowledges its adverts, which have been published in every match day programme of each Scottish Premiership football match on the opening day of the new season, in conjunction with the Scottish Football Association and Ladbrokes welcoming all LGBTI football fans to the new season; notes that the Equality Network is still actively looking for clubs to sign up to its LGBT Sports Charter, which aims to improve the visibility and inclusion of LGBT people in Scottish sport, and acknowledges that more work has to be done to ensure that Scottish football and Scottish sport more broadly provides a welcoming and inclusive LGBTI-friendly environment.
