  • Submitted by: Foysol Choudhury, Lothian, Independent.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 25 November 2025
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S6M-19901
  • Current status: Fallen

That the Parliament welcomes the news that West Lothian Council has submitted a bid for the funding of a train station in Winchburgh, based on the proposal, which received planning permission in October 2025; understands that the proposal and funding bid are the result of the collaboration and hard work of the Council, Winchburgh Developments, local MPs and MSPs, the Edinburgh & South East Scotland City Region Joint Committee, the South East of Scotland Transport Partnership, Network Rail, Transport Scotland and ScotRail; recognises the view that Winchburgh, which sits within the fastest-growing region in Scotland and has a population rapidly approaching 14,000, needs stronger transport links; acknowledges claims made in the business case that by 2030 a new station would be used by 625 passengers a day, with a cost-benefit ratio of 2.1 before any passenger revenue is counted; looks forward to seeing the business case carefully considered, and welcomes further discussion on how to strengthen transport links in the Lothian region.
