  • Submitted by: Emma Harper, South Scotland, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 05 September 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-18634

That the Parliament congratulates Dark Art Distillery in Kirkcudbright, in the South Scotland region, for what it sees as its outstanding contribution to local tourism and heritage; notes that the distillery is housed in the beautifully restored former Johnstone Primary School, which now serves as a vibrant visitor destination and is shared with the Dark Space Planetarium and the Wee Pottery; celebrates the distillery’s success in producing award-winning spirits, including the Sky Garden Gin, which was recognised as Best Newcomer at the Scottish Gin Awards 2021, and Scotland’s first 100% Blue Weber Agave spirit, Véspero, which is a tribute to Mexican tequila; acknowledges the distillery’s role in promoting the region’s unique dark sky heritage and artistic legacy; commends its efforts in revitalising a historic building, supporting local employment and enhancing the cultural and economic fabric of Kirkcudbright and the wider Dumfries and Galloway area, and wishes all of the team at Dark Art Distillery continued success for the future.
