Appointment of John Jeffrey as Lord Lieutenant for Roxburgh, Ettrick and Lauderdale

That the Parliament congratulates John Jeffrey on his appointment as His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for Roxburgh, Ettrick and Lauderdale; recognises what it sees as John Jeffrey’s outstanding contributions to Scottish sport, particularly rugby union, where he earned 40 caps for Scotland and became a respected figure both on and off the field; notes his continued involvement in the development and promotion of Scottish rugby at all levels, and his deep-rooted commitment to the Scottish Borders, where he was born and raised in Kelso; acknowledges what it sees as the vital role of Lord Lieutenants in representing the Crown and supporting civic life across Scotland; pays tribute to the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry for his dedicated service in the role since 4 July 2016, particularly during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic; believes that John Jeffrey’s passion for the region, his leadership experience, and his longstanding community engagement make him exceptionally well suited to this prestigious role, and wishes him every success as he begins this new chapter of public service, upholding the values, traditions, and spirit of the Borders community.
