That the Parliament notes the reported findings of a YouGov survey commissioned by St Andrew’s First Aid (SAFA), Scotland’s only dedicated first aid charity, which shows that the north east of Scotland ranks among the highest regions in the country for first aid training, with 68% of respondents  reporting that they have received some form of training, and 14%, the highest of any region, having completed it within the past year; welcomes that, according to the survey, nearly half, 46%, of residents said that they would intervene in a first aid emergency, with that figure rising to 84% if the person in need is known to them, again, the highest in Scotland; acknowledges reports, however, that significant concerns persist, with 65% of respondents in the region afraid of doing something wrong and 59% of respondents worried about making things worse, echoing national trends; understands that, according to the survey, 19% of respondents cited fear of being judged by others as a key barrier, the highest of any Scottish region and seven percentage points above the national average; is concerned that, according to the survey, 9% of people in the north east admitted to not stepping in when they had the opportunity to provide first aid, which is above the national average of 7%, and supports SAFA’s Taking the Fear Out of First Aid campaign, which aims to reduce hesitation, build public confidence, and raise awareness of the importance of first aid across the north east and the whole of Scotland.
