  • Submitted by: John Mason, Glasgow Shettleston, Independent.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 12 June 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-17937

That the Parliament notes that 18 June 2025 marks the International Day for Countering Hate Speech, as established by the United Nations to raise awareness of the harmful effects of hate speech and to promote efforts to prevent its spread; believes that hate speech undermines social cohesion, fuels discrimination, and incites violence, and that it continues to be a growing concern in many societies, including Scotland; acknowledges what it sees as the importance of education, dialogue and legal measures in addressing and countering hate speech, and commits to promoting respect, tolerance and understanding to foster a more inclusive and harmonious society.
