  • Submitted by: Humza Yousaf, Glasgow Pollok, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 25 March 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-16897

That the Parliament congratulates pupils from St Paul's RC High School who are participating in the 2025 SP Energy Networks (SPEN) Warriors School Championship; understands that the SPEN Warriors Championship supports rugby at a grassroots level and creates a platform for aspiring rugby stars, while spotlighting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) opportunities to encourage students to think about a career beyond the game; recognises that this is the eighth year of SPEN supporting the ever growing Championship with over 6,000 young people from 28 schools taking part over the years; notes that St Paul's initial games against two other schools starts on 1 April 2025, with the final to be played on 6 May 2025; commends the tournament format that allows pupils to play matches in a formal competition, promoting teamwork and a healthy lifestyle, whilst removing barriers to support emerging talent, demonstrating that rugby is for everyone, and wishes the coaching staff and students all the very best for the tournament.
