That the Parliament congratulates Girvan Academy on winning the South Ayrshire Provost’s School Footprint Challenge; understands that the Provost’s annual Footprint Challenge gives South Ayrshire schools the opportunity to develop and present plans to reduce their schools carbon footprint, with each school undertaking its own projects aimed at tackling climate change; further understands that Girvan Academy won first prize for upgrading its outdoor classroom, working to increase biodiversity around the school, planting marram grass to prevent coastal erosion on the golf course and continuing an ongoing clothing recycling project; recognises that the event was held at Dumfries House for the first time and that the Provost was joined on the judging panel, amongst others, by special guest, Mayor Keith Brady of Newnan, Georgia; congratulates runners-up Marr College and all the participants for the fantastic work that they did throughout the year while competing in this challenge, and hopes to see South Ayrshire schools continuing their endeavours in the future.
