  • Motion reference: S6M-12528

That the Parliament congratulates Soroptimist International Aberdeen as it celebrates its 95th year; understands that the name Soroptimist was devised from the combined Latin soror meaning "sister", and optima meaning "best", which is often interpreted as "the best for women"; further understands that the Soroptimists is an international society that seeks to transform the lives and status of women and girls through education, empowerment and enabling opportunities; notes that Soroptimist International Aberdeen is involved in a variety of activities, including providing practical support for local, national and international projects, as well as distributing funds to local and national charities such as Grampian Women’s Aid, Instant Neighbour, Aberlour Child Care Trust, Strut Safe, Smart Works and international charity, the Rosie May Foundation; recognises that the "Aberdeen sisters" held a weekend of celebrations for their 95th anniversary, with members and friends involved in a range of activities that included handing out pots of spring bulbs, a civic reception with the Lord and Lady Provost, and a Diva tribute show, and wishes the voluntary organisation for women every success as it works to continue to improve the lives of women and girls.
