  • Date lodged: Thursday, 08 February 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12077

That the Parliament congratulates Bellshill Athletic FC and Academy on reaching the last eight of the Scottish Junior Cup for the second year in a row; understands that the club, which was founded in 1897 and is run by volunteers and supported financially by local businesses and the wider Bellshill community, pulled itself back from the brink of extinction a few short years ago; acknowledges the work that the Club’s committee is currently undertaking to secure Rockburn Park as its home, as it works in partnership with North Lanarkshire Council to complete a Community Asset Transfer; recognises that the Club’s Academy, also led by volunteers, provides sporting, wellbeing and friendship opportunities to 17 youth teams, from the under-five to under-18 age groups; notes that the club supports two girls’ youth teams, an under-20s team, an amateur team and an over-35s team; congratulates everyone involved at the Cub and Academy, past and present, and wishes it every success in its drive for success on the football park, and in its endeavours to secure Rockburn Park as its Bellshill home in partnership with North Lanarkshire Council.
