  • Submitted by: Stuart McMillan, Greenock and Inverclyde, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 27 November 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-11420

That the Parliament congratulates St Andrews First Aid's (SAFA) Inverclyde Company on winning SAFA's month-long volunteers' challenge centred around World Restart a Heart 2023, which launched on 16 October 2023; notes that the competition challenged SAFA’s volunteers to demonstrate CPR to as many members of the public as possible in an attempt to promote awareness about cardiac arrest and the importance of bystander CPR in saving lives; understands that SAFA’s Inverclyde Company held 12 successful events and demonstrated CPR to a total of 482 participants; commends the rest of SAFA’s 38 volunteers, who took part in the challenge and taught first aid to over 1,000 people at 33 well-attended events, 29% of which, it understands, were held within the top 10% most deprived areas in Scotland; understands, and upholds, what it sees as the importance of World Restart a Heart 2023 for promoting the use of public access defibrillators and highlighting what it sees as health inequality around access, and gives thanks to SAFA, as Scotland’s only dedicated first-aid charity, for its ongoing efforts to raise awareness and educate people across Scotland about first aid.
