  • Submitted by: Audrey Nicoll, Aberdeen South and North Kincardine, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 07 November 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-11095

That the Parliament congratulates Laura Ripley, of the Aberdeen South and North Kincardine constituency, on winning the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) Female Entrepreneurship Award at the Converge Awards; commends the other finalists on their nominations; recognises that Laura is studying an open degree with the Open University in Scotland; understands that Laura’s business, Northern Frights, is a horror and fantasy events company that uses props, special effects and skilled actors to create immersive and thrilling events in the North of Scotland; further understands that the judges all agreed that "Laura’s resilience and determination to cut through to a largely male dominated niche sector with an ambitious scalable business model showed real entrepreneurial spirit"; notes that Laura’s prize includes £10,000 to develop her business, plus a mentoring session with a senior RBS executive, and wishes Laura and all the other finalists all the very best for the future.
