North Korean Refugees Fleeing Persecution

  • Submitted by: Kate Forbes, Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 12 October 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-10825

That the Parliament notes with concern reports that China may have repatriated 600 North Korean refugees on 9 October 2023; understands that many of these refugees are Christians fleeing persecution, who were attempting to go to South Korea; further understands that the refugees are being taken to prison camps, with some even facing execution, and urges the UK Government to initiate dialogue with Chinese authorities to facilitate the deportation of the remaining North Korean refugees to other countries, rather than sending them back to North Korea and thereby, it believes, jeopardising their lives.
