That the Parliament expresses its condolences, following the sad news of the death of Sir Michael Bonallack OBE at the age of 88; notes that Sir Michael was Britain’s most decorated amateur golfer and a leading figure in the sport; understands that he also served as Secretary of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews for 15 years, from 1984 to 1999, during which time he was awarded a knighthood in recognition of his role as an ambassador for golf; further understands that Sir Michael’s career as an amateur golfer included winning the Amateur Championship and the English Amateur Championship five times; recognises his contribution in representing Great Britain and Ireland in the Walker Cup nine times, including winning the competition in 1971, which was the first occasion since 1938 on which the team representing Great Britain and Ireland were victorious; welcomes that Sir Michael was able to attend the opening ceremony of the recent Walker Cup match at St Andrews, where he was given a standing ovation by the many fans who were there to celebrate the centenary of the first staging of the match, and expresses once again its condolences to his friends and family for the sad news of his passing.
