Glasgow Woodland Initiative Shortlisted for RSPB Nature of Scotland Award

That the Parliament congratulates Malls Mire Community Woodland and Local Nature Reserve on being shortlisted in the Health and Wellbeing category at RSPB Scotland’s prestigious Nature of Scotland Awards; understands that Malls Mire, an area of mixed woodland and wetland habitat situated between Toryglen and Rutherglen, is managed by Glasgow-based charity, Urban Roots, which has worked with the community to improve the woodland for people and wildlife since 2009; recognises that Urban Roots runs a wide programme of activities, including woodland conservation, wellbeing sessions, outdoor education, children's clubs and family events, all with the aim of connecting people with nature, promoting healthy lifestyles and building sustainable communities; notes that Malls Mire was the first Community Woodland in Glasgow, and was made a Local Nature Reserve in 2015; understands that the award winners of 10 categories will be announced at a ceremony at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on 22 November 2023, and that the awards will be hosted by zoologist, TV presenter and RSPB Ambassador, Megan McCubbin, and TV presenter and nature enthusiast, JJ Chalmers; commends the staff and volunteers of Urban Roots for all the work that they do to connect urban communities to nature, and wishes them every success both at the awards and in the future, as they continue their valuable work.
