64th Anniversary of the Auchengeich Mining Disaster

That the Parliament solemnly notes the 64th anniversary of the Auchengeich mining disaster, which took place on 18 September 1959; understands that the tragedy was Scotland’s worst mining disaster of the 20th century; recognises that 47 men lost their lives in the accident, leaving 76 children without their father and 41 women widowed; acknowledges the enduring impact on the community of Moodiesburn and the surrounding areas, and commends the Auchengeich Miners' Memorial Committee for its ongoing commitment to remembering and paying respect to the miners and their families.
