That the Parliament welcomes the appointment of The Rt Hon Lord Robertson of Port Ellen KT as the new Chancellor of the University of Dundee; understands that Lord Robertson is a university alumnus who graduated in 1968 with a degree in economics; recognises that Lord Robertson represented the constituencies of Hamilton and Hamilton South as a Labour MP from 1978 to 1999 in the UK Parliament, serving as the Secretary of State for Defence from 1997 to 1999 when he resigned from Parliament in order to become the General Secretary of NATO; believes that the role of chancellor is the most senior at the university and involves acting as its ceremonial head, presiding over academic ceremonies; further believes that Lord Robertson will be an exceptional Chancellor, and wishes him and the university the very best in the years to come.
