That the Parliament congratulates Melissa Rowlands on winning the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Scotland Mental Health Nursing Award; notes that Melissa is a Dementia Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) at St John’s Hospital, in NHS Lothian; understands that she developed the role in dementia care to enhance patient care and support diagnosis, which seeks to prevent admission to hospital for people with dementia in care homes; further understands that, within a year of establishing the service, waiting times have halved, and welcomes that the approach Melissa developed is being shared across Scotland and that she is now supporting ANPs in other areas to implement her initiative.
