Glasgow Cafe Celebrates 50 Years in Business

  • Submitted by: Annie Wells, Glasgow, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 30 May 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-09151

That the Parliament congratulates the Newlands Cafe on celebrating 50 years in business; understands that the café was opened in 1973 by Jonny and Gemma Coia, after relocating from the village of Filignano in Italy; notes that, for the past 10 years, the shop has been run by their son, Joe, and his wife, Gian, and acknowledges that the café, which is in the city’s southside, is known for its ice creams, but believes that its old-fashioned customer service values and signature sweet treats have established it as a local institution.
