  • Submitted by: Edward Mountain, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 24 May 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-09077

That the Parliament recognises the 70th anniversary of the opening of Achfary Village Hall in north-west Sutherland; understands that the hall, which is part of Grosvenor’s Reay Forest Estate, was opened by GK Ridley, agent to the second Duke of Westminster and was built as a part of significant investment scheme, which began in 1949; acknowledges that the first event held in the hall was an event to celebrate the Coronation of the late Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 and that, since its inaugural event, it has acted as a venue for weddings, indoor sports events, drama productions and community meetings; notes that the hall’s 70th anniversary celebrations will include the presentation of historic documents and photographs of the hall throughout its use over the last 70 years and believes that it will give locals the opportunity to get together and share their own memories of the hall, and wishes the residents of Achfary well in their celebrations of their hall’s anniversary.
