Stranraer Brass Ensemble Hits Right Notes to Retain National Title

  • Submitted by: Finlay Carson, Galloway and West Dumfries, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 15 May 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-08897

That the Parliament congratulates the Stranraer Brass Ensemble after it retained its prestigious Scottish Young Musicians Ensemble of the Year award; believes that the four-piece ensemble struck all the right notes with the judging panel, who, it understands, praised its remarkable performance for its musicality and panache, while being able to communicate its musical message through the microphone directly to the heart and soul as well as the ears of the adjudication team; acknowledges that it will now receive a cash prize to further its musical experiences, as well as the stunning sculpture by Alexander Stoddart of the Maid of Morven Trophy and an all-expenses paid trip to play a prime slot at the Solo Performer of the Year National Final at  the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland later in May 2023; recognises what it sees as the influence and dedication of conductor, Angela Miller; understands that the ensemble are all players from the community Stranraer Brass Band, which recently qualified for the Fourth Section National Finals in Cheltenham, which will be its first appearance since 1995, and wishes the ensemble continued success in the coming months.
