Motion for the Tercentenary of Adam Smith

  • Submitted by: Liz Smith, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 11 May 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-08875

That the Parliament commemorates the tercentenary of the birth of Adam Smith in 2023; recognises what it sees as the profound influence he had as a key figure during the Scottish Enlightenment and as the author of An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations and the Theory of Moral Sentiments, which, it believes, were seminal works in the field of political economy, and welcomes the events taking place across Scotland to celebrate his legacy.
