  • Submitted by: Miles Briggs, Lothian, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.

  • Motion reference: S6M-08855

That the Parliament congratulates the Scottish Book Trust on its Reading is Caring programme, which, it understands, provides tailored workshops to help anyone who is caring for someone living with dementia to personalise shared reading, accommodating communication obstacles, accessibility needs, their life experiences and their interests; understands that after two successful years in the Scottish Borders, the free Reading is Caring programme is now being offered in Edinburgh and the Lothians; further understands that the programme is in its third year and has had wonderful feedback from participants, who have found the resources and information helpful in both structured reading activities; considers that feedback and evaluations indicate that attendees find this calming, relationship-strengthening and fulfilling, and believes that it has a wonderful impact on identity and connection for both the care partner and the person they are caring for.
