That the Parliament commends the organisers of Aberdeen’s highly successful Fascination of Plants Day 2022, which is part of a global day of events to get people fascinated by plants and enthused about the importance of plant science for life on earth; understands that events included highlighting the importance of plants to mental health and everyday life, while hands-on workshops investigated the impact of climate change on plants; recognises that the Aberdeen collaboration was selected to be showcased as the UK success story from the 2022 international events programme; understands that building on this success, the Aberdeen collaboration, comprising of Aberdeen Science Centre, Cruickshank Botanic Gardens (University of Aberdeen), Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen City Council Duthie Park Ranger Service, Scotland’s Rural College, The James Hutton Institute and Scotland’s Garden Scheme are organising the 2023 Aberdeen Fascination of Plants Day, which is to be held on 21 May 2023; recognises that the 2023 event is particularly notable as it coincides with it being the 125th anniversary of the Cruickshank Botanic Gardens, and the 40th anniversary of the Friends of the Cruickshank Botanic Gardens; thanks the partners for their ongoing work to engage with the public about plants and their importance to the world, and passes on its best wishes for a successful event.
