  • Submitted by: Paul O'Kane, West Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 16 March 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-08249

That the Parliament congratulates Connor Paterson, 19, Kara Best, 17, and Olivia Mahon, 15, all from the West Scotland region, on their selection to the Young People's Sport Panel for 2023-2025; notes that the Young People’s Sport Panel provides an opportunity for young people to be heard and valued, to influence decision-making and drive change; understands that the panel is made up of 20 young people, including 14 young women, and includes people from diverse ethnic communities, people with disabilities, and people from rural and island communities; further understands that this programme, funded by the National Lottery and supported by Young Scot, is in its sixth cohort since its creation in 2012, and represents the voices of young people in Scotland who, it considers, are influencing and shaping the future of sport in Scotland, and understands that sportscotland brought this panel together in Stirling on 4 March 2023 to provide team-building opportunities and help the panel understand its role, as well as providing an opportunity for the young people to identify gaps in sportscotland’s corporate strategy, Sport For Life, and its work on equality, diversity and inclusion, forming the start of discussions about the areas of the sporting system that they will focus on as a panel.
