  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 14 March 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-08202

That the Parliament congratulates McTaggart Group, based in Dalry, on winning Large Employer of the Year at the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards 2023; understands that McTaggart Group has been supporting apprentices for more than 20 years, and currently employs 33 apprentices, working in areas including scaffolding, plant operations and joinery; believes that construction can provide life-changing opportunities and that, by offering Foundation, Modern and Graduate Apprenticeships, the company provides career routes outside of traditional academic pathways; recognises that more than 80% of McTaggart Group’s apprentices have been supported to overcome barriers to employment, with most sites based in areas where educational attainment and progression into a positive destination beyond school is lower than the national average; commends McTaggart Group for its commitment to addressing skill shortages and encouraging young people into the construction industry, and wishes the apprentices, wider workforce and the company all the best for the future.
