  • Submitted by: Christine Grahame, Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 01 March 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-08049

That the Parliament congratulates Tweed Forum and its partners for receiving official recognition by UNESCO of the Eddleston Water Project, in the Scottish Borders, as an Ecohydrology Demonstration Site; understands that, in becoming globally identified as a site demonstrating best practice, this is the first site to achieve such recognition anywhere in the UK; notes that the Eddleston Water Project is a long-running research study, managed by Tweed Forum and funded by the Scottish Government, which seeks to demonstrate the effectiveness of nature-based solutions to reduce flood risk to downstream communities in Peebles and Eddleston, and to improve wildlife habitats for species such as otters, salmon and lampreys, and pays credit to Tweed Forum, SEPA, the Scottish Borders Council, the University of Dundee and, crucially, the farmers, landowners and local community of the Eddleston Water catchment for the continued success of the project.
