  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 08 February 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-07796

That the Parliament congratulates LU Innovations and its founder, Erin Reid, from East Kilbride, on being awarded support by the Converge creation initiative to develop a menstrual hygiene kit; notes that, working alongside Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen and Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Erin is developing the kit, which is designed to support women when they have their periods in remote locations without access to bathrooms or hand-washing facilities; understands that the kit helps good menstrual hygiene and reduces waste using innovative storage, application, cleaning and disposal options for menstrual products; acknowledges that LU Innovations won the 2022 Converge Create Change Challenge alongside the Royal Bank of Scotland’s Rose Award; encourages all staff, students and recent graduates from Scotland’s universities to consider creating products and services to make a difference to people’s lives and the planet, by participating in Converge’s 2023 challenges; understands that Erin hopes to expand LU Innovations by bringing onboard a business partner and non-executive director, alongside starting sales of the menstrual hygiene kit in the near future, and wishes Erin all the best in her future endeavours.
