A Tribute to Firefighter Barry Martin

  • Submitted by: Jamie Greene, West Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 08 February 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-07756

That the Parliament extends its deepest sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of firefighter, Barry Martin, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty tackling a fire at the Jenners building, in Edinburgh, in January 2023; sends its thoughts and prayers to all those affected by his death; commends the bravery of all the firefighters called on to attend the incident; wishes the other firefighters who were injured at the scene the very best for their recovery; considers that, whilst the current awards system does not specifically or formally recognise emergency service workers who lose their lives while performing their duties, should such a scheme exist in the future then Barry should rightly be honoured by it as a mark of dedication to his memory, and more widely expresses huge gratitude for all of Scotland's emergency service workers who bravely dedicate their lives to looking after the public on a daily basis.
