25th Anniversary of Perth Twinning with Bydgoszcz

  • Submitted by: Jim Fairlie, Perthshire South and Kinross-shire, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 02 February 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-07705

That the Parliament congratulates the cities of Perth and Bydgoszcz on the 25th anniversary of their city twinning agreement; understands that representatives of Bydgoszcz will be invited to attend a celebratory weekend of events in Perth scheduled between 8 and 12 June 2023, with reciprocal events taking place in September; believes that Perthshire has one of the largest Polish communities in Scotland, with many Poles staying on after the Second World War, while a number have settled in the area more recently; commends the significant support it considers that the Polish community has given to Ukrainian refugees, both in Perth and Kinross and in Poland, as noted in a recent Perth and Kinross Council report; believes that the planned events offer a great opportunity to celebrate the links between Perthshire and Bydgoszcz, and wishes all involved every success.
